Independent woman!

This morning, I went for a run all by myself. My running mate, Pete, was away for the weekend, so I decided to give it a go. He's moving in a few weeks' time anyway, so I've got to get used to running solo! I was quite irrationally terrified by the idea of going out on my own, which was ridiculous because obviously I knew I could do it, but I was scared that I wouldn't pace myself properly, or I'd get bored, or I wouldn't have the mental toughness to get through 9.5 miles without wimping out and going home.

But I didn't just finish the run - I ended up with a new PB! Hoorah! I'm especially impressed because the weather was really warm (when the sun came out, it was boiling, and when the clouds came over it was horribly muggy and humid and sweaty) and my hayfever was awful - I could hear my lungs rasping every time I breathed in! So I'm feeling quite smug now, really!

  2. Well done for going out alone and it being a more than successful run.

I love going out on my own, its easier to do speed work or just plod along if I feel that's all I want to do.

Can I ask what watch / tech you use for distance / pace tracking. I am looking at several and not sure what I really need or want.

  3. I'm afraid I'm not very high-tech, Vics! I used to have a Nike+ Sportband, but it died, so now I just time my runs using my refereeing watch (pictured - it's just a Casio sports watch). I always run the same route - either 7.5 miles on a Tuesday or an extra loop to make it up to 9.5 miles) which Pete and I worked out ages ago on Map My Run, so that's how I work out my pace. I'd really like to get one of those posh Garmin watches but I can't afford one! : )

I use Map my run and the timer on my heart rate monitor at the min but looking at an 'upgrade' but will also have to wait a while or get saving for it :)
