This is not good...

My boiler has a fault and I have no hot water! Typically, this would have to happen on a Bank Holiday! Reading the manual, it seems like it needs repressuring, which is apparently an easy job - except that the instructions in the manual make no sense, and when I turn the one valve that doesn't look like it's connected to the gas, nothing happens!

  1. I'd rather leave that one to an expert. I'm always worried about the pressure getting out of hand and the thing exploding. But then it took me 3 hours to figure out how the boiler worked in the first place, so don't get too worried :-)

  2. I always worry when it's anything to do with gas as well!

I emailed the letting agency - a new agency took over last November, and they sent me a letter saying that they should be my sole point of contact for all matters relating to the tenancy and for all maintenance issues. They emailed me back saying that they don't manage my property and that they've forwarded my email to my landlady, who will have to advise them on what she wants to do about getting the boiler fixed. Not entirely sure what the point of all that was, then - I'm going to ring the landlady if I haven't heard anything by lunchtime! Sigh...

  3. Update (because I know everyone's on the edge of their seats about this) - the plumber came last night and it's now fixed, hoorah! It was ridiculously simple - the valve was hidden in the (seemingly) useless cupboard where the old water tank used to be. All you have to do is turn the valve until the pressure goes up, and it's fixed. So it was a two-second job for the plumber, and I felt like a bit of a pathetic helpless girl!
